Remembrance Day parade
Beavers
For girls and boys between 6 years and 8 years old. Join us at Scout HQ on Wednesday evening 5.30pm- 6.45pm. (Skirrid Section)
Monday evening 5.15pm-6.45pm (Sugarloaf Section)
Cub Scouts
For girls and boys between 8 years and 10 years 6 months old. Join us at Scout HQ on a Thursday evening between 6.00pm and 7.30pm.
Scouts
For girls and boys between the ages of 10 and a half years and 14 years old. Join us on a Monday evening between 7pm and 8.30pm
Squirrels
Squirrels must be four years old before they can join the section, they can move on to Beavers wheb they are 6 years old.
Parents will be asked to form a parental help rota with sessions about one each term for every family.
We have meetings on a Tuesday 5.15pm - 6.15pm during term time. There is a uniform (red top)and a termly subscription.
As with other sections badges and neckers are supplied upon investiture.

Who We Are
Beavers
Beaver Scouts are our youngest members. They usually meet weekly to take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, singing, visits and good turns, along with plenty of outdoor activities.
They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them.

There is no formal Beaver Scout Law. The concepts expressed in the Scout Law are to be presented to Beaver Scouts through games, storytelling and other informal activities.

Cubs
A Cub Scout Pack is split into smaller groups called Sixes. Cubs take part in a wide range of activities designed to be interesting and challenging. A Cub Scout meeting consists of games and activities with plenty of time spent outdoors.
Camps and holidays are some of the most memorable events of the year for Cubs.

Scouts
Each Scout Troop consists of small units of six to eight Scouts called a Patrol, usually led by a Patrol Leader. Outdoor activities feature prominently, with the highlight being camping. Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for camp.
Rock climbing, potholing, gliding, photography and international experiences are just some of the things they get up to.

Subscriptions and Volunteering
..
In the Abergavenny Scout Group subscriptions are paid termly, £50 three times a year. January, April and September.
This fee covers the cost of the upkeep of the meeting place, training of the Leaders and our subscriptions to the Scouting Association.. Trips, camps and activities are usually charged separately but each year we fund raise to help with these costs.
Young leaders.
Also we are looking for anyone under the age of 18yrs, interested to join us on the leadership team. Anyone who would like to train as Young leaders (14-18yrs old) to help with all Scout sections. This is a volunteer post and training will be given, ideal for Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteering.
LEADERS and VOLUNTEERS
All our leaders are volunteers, if you would like to know more about how you can volunteer please contact us. There are many options not all involving wearing uniform. There are also many roles that help the Group deliver the adventurous scouting we want for our young people that take up only a few hours a month. Training is provided and all help welcomed.
If you have a skill or hobby that could be of interest in a programme we would love to hear from you. If you can help or know of someone else who can, please contact us.

Badges and Awards
The Scouting Programme
The Scouting Programme for all sections is based around three main themes: outdoor adventure, the world and skills.
Did you know that as well as hiking, healthy eating and camping badges, our Scouts can develop skills in IT, PR and mechanics?
Our activity badges allow Scouts, Cubs and Beavers to demonstrate their progress in various pursuits, and help them to form new interests. They are usually awarded when a young person has completed a challenging yet achievable set of requirements.
We also have a number of Challenge Awards, which focus on more ambitious tasks and are themed around the zones of our balanced programme.
And the top awards?
Each section has at least one Chief Scout's Award; ranked bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond.
Many older Scouts also complete the various parts of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, or go on an expedition to gain their Explorer Belt.
The Queen's Scout Award marks the pinnacle of effort and achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members. Every year those who've recently achieved the award get the opportunity to attend a royal parade at Windsor Castle.

The HQ can be found by entering the Car Park off Park Avenue. The building backs onto Baileys Park and is noticeable by the purple railings - the Group colour.
After 6 pm parking is free in the carpark.
WAITING LIST
We do have a waiting list, especially for the Cub pack, Beaver colony and Squirrels Drey.. If you would like your child to join please contact us. Include your name and contact email and phone number. Also add your child's name and date of birth. We should get back to you very quickly.

Uniform for Scouts Cubs and Beavers can be bought at the Scout shop online
You may also find uniform on ebay.com
Scouts wear a teal green shirt or blouse, navy blue activity trousers or skirt, a group scarf with a woggle, and a Scout belt.
Cubs may wear a dark green sweatshirt with a Group scarf (often called a necker) and a woggle.
Beaver Scouts may wear a turquoise sweatshirt with a Group scarf (often called a necker) and a maroon woggle.
Neckers badges and woggles will be supplied upon investiture..

Uniform for Squirrels
UNIFORM
Squirrels wear Red sweatshirts as a uniform top, this is needed especially for all official events, such as parades and also to sew their membership badges when they are invested and their activity badges etc as they gain them. This top can be bought through the Scout Shop online..

On investiture each child will receive a group scarf(necker) and the badges that are required. Some of these will go with the young person to the next section.
In our Scout Group each section has a different colour hoodie with embroidered emblem of the Scout Group on the chest. For Squirrels this will be forest green, this should be purchased directly from Dynamite Branding, 37 Cross Street Abergavenny. Please note this has been instituted as we are working in outdoors, this is not official uniform and therefore not an obligatory purchase.

Welcome to Abergavenny Scout Group
The last Jamboree on the Trail
Jamboree on the Trail has been an event held annually for all mebers of the Scout Association worldwide. Everyone should be hiking and outdoors on this day.
And indeed we were!
Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts hiked to Goytre Hall woods for a picnic where parents and siblings joined us for a campfire in the woods.
'The weather was perfect and the woods full of bluebells! What more could one ask?

Parent Portal among other things allows you to follow your child's progress through their Scouting experience. Your Leader will be sending you a link.
It allows you to look directly into the programming for your section as well as the badges your child has gained. All event will be listed and you will be asked if your child will be attending.
Please also note that this is now where we have our emergency details, so please keep the info up to date.
Executive Committee

There are a range of badges and awards available to young people in the Beaver Scout section.
Activity Badges
Many of the badges available are activity badges, which allow Beaver Scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests.
Staged Activity Badges are available to young people from Beavers to Explorers, and cover a range of topics and skills. The stages have increasing levels of difficulty, and a Beaver can begin at whichever stage offers them an appropriate level of challenge.
Challenge Awards
Achieving a Challenge Award involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the Colony or community.
These Awards support the main themes of the Programme; outdoor and adventure; world and skills. Beavers take part in a range of activities to develop their skills and understanding in each of the challenge areas.
Core badges
In addition, there are a number of core badges, obtained upon joining or moving on from the Colony, or for time spent in the Scouting movement.
